2024 marks the 50th anniversary for the iconic multirole fighter jet, the F-16 Viper which is the preferred name for the jet over it's official name, "Fighting Falcon." On February 2nd, 1974, fifty years ago, it took to the skies, officially. (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Dynamics_F-16_Fighting_Falcon)
"Its pilots and crews often use the name "Viper" instead, because of a perceived resemblance to a viper snake as well as to the fictional Colonial Viper starfighter from the 1970s television program Battlestar Galactica, which aired at the time the F-16 entered service."
The name "Viper" has stuck to the jet ever since, and many prefer this name over the other.
This year, 2024, the Viper Demonstration Team, has released, with great surprise to everyone, the newest paint scheme of their demo jet. They have painted it in original, red, white and blue colors of the original YF-16A prototype that first flew in 1974.
This year, at the 2024 CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show which will be, June 22-23 2024, the US Air Combat Command F-16 Viper Demonstration Team will be showcasing this iconic and amazing jet.
